Mechanics of Yasmin is preventing the pregnancy:
Yasmin drug contains two active ingredients Drospirenone and Ethinyl Estradiol. These both acts differently in the female body and stops the pregnancy to happen.
Drospirenone (3mg) is a progestin that acts the same way the progesterone act. It circulates freely to the target cells present in the female genital system, hypothalamus mammary glands, and pituitary and binds to the progesterone receptor. This binding decreases the frequency of the release of Gonadotropin releasing hormone (GnRH) from hypothalamus and stops the pre-ovulatory urge.
Ethinyl Estradiol (0.03 mg) belongs to estrogen that acts by binding to the estrogen receptor present at the target cells of female reproductive system, hypothalamus, mammary glands, and pituitary. When a progestin and estrogen comes in combination with each other, abolishes the hypothalamic pituitary system. This result in the decrease in the secretion of GnRH and prevent pre-ovulatory urge.
